Wasabi Storage Volume Calculation

Wasabi Storage Volume Calculation

Do you find that the WASABI / NESTEC Hot Cloud Storage bills are partly or noticeably higher than the currently used storage capacity suggests?

REASON and an example:

You save a file on day 1. On one of the following days you overwrite the file with a new version, but without changing the file name. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: This happens even with versioning switched off in the WASABI bucket). The following happens on Wasabi: the original file is moved to the DELETED objects and the new file is written. So there are now both the new file and the day 1 volume costs. The file as a DELETED object is only removed from the storage after 29 or 89 days (29 days for RCS, and 89 days for Pay-as-you-go). In the monthly billing you will have active objects as well as the deleted (but still existing) objects. The PEAK consumption is invoiced for each billing cycle.

Deleted file is removed form your billing after 29 or 89 days, depending on your subscription model.

SOLUTION:
Check the retention policy in your WASABI bucket and also the settings for the retention policy (retention period for deleted objects) in both WASABI and your data backup program. You cannot completely prevent the costs incurred for deleted objects, but you can reduce them by restrictive settings.

Does Wasabi have a minimum storage duration policy?

Wasabi has a minimum storage duration policy that means if stored objects are deleted before they have been stored with Wasabi for a certain number of days (30 days when using the Wasabi RCS pricing model), a Timed Deleted Storage charge equal to the storage charge for the remaining days will apply. This policy is comparable to the minimum storage duration policies that exist with some AWS and other hyperscaler storage services. For more details on this policy, please refer to this knowledge base article.
